On 15th November 2024, the Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC, in collaboration with the Department of Civil Engineering, organized an expert talk on “Understanding the Basics of Intellectual Property Rights: Essential Knowledge for Entrepreneurs and Innovators.” The resource person for the program was Dr. K. Vinu Kumar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Francis Xavier Engineering College, Tirunelveli. 42 civil engineering Students attended the program. The session was coordinated by Mrs. P. Raja Priya, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, FXEC.

The resource person began by outlining the fundamental concepts of intellectual property, emphasizing its significance for entrepreneurs and innovators. He discussed the different types of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets, and explained their importance in safeguarding innovations and ideas. He also highlighted the strategic value of IPR for businesses, particularly for startups, in maintaining a competitive edge and preventing unauthorized use of their ideas.

Throughout the session, he provided perceptions into the process of obtaining intellectual property protection, discussing both national and international procedures. He also shared practical examples of how successful entrepreneurs have leveraged IPR to secure their innovations and drive growth. The talk emphasized the importance of awareness in protecting one’s intellectual assets and understanding the legal rights associated with them. The interactive session concluded with a Q&A segment, allowing students to clarify their doubts and seek further guidance on intellectual property matters. His expertise and practical examples made the talk highly engaging and informative, leaving students with a solid foundation in IPR and its relevance to their entrepreneurial journeys.
